Is It Really Worth It?

Hmmmm, well this guy did it as an entrepreneur building a traditional business which is more risky than building a direct sales business. Being ambitious enough to have a dream to be lazy?! Really? Is that what it takes? What about OUR why? Why do we sit back and think, "man, this is hard." Isn't our why good enough to work our tail off to get to the sandy beaches, Disney with our kids, to be able to "retire" at a young age & enjoy life? Don't we want to live debt free? To have a choice in life to do something we enjoy instead of what we HAVE to do to survive? To give our family options? To live our life to the fullest? To give back to our churches, charities, schools, people? To help hundreds of OTHERS achieve this life too? It's important enough to get off our duff & get MOVING?!

Imagine you had the cure for cancer, would you keep that knowledge to yourself? Or would you share it with the world and save lives? THIS (direct sales) is the cure to the economic cancer of our world! With residual income & high salary potential, why wouldn't you give it a chance? Why would you choose to work 12 hours a day at a job with no chance of advancement? Banging your head against your desk? No chance of making enough for your family to thrive? Working to make enough to live pay check to pay check? I KNOW that what I am working for will get my family beyond THAT!

It's not about the money. Nope, really. It's about having a choice. Being able to choose to put my sons in football and my daughters in dance/gymnastics and not have to BLINK at the fees. It's not about the toys, or the electronics, or the house. Nope, it's about spending time with my children before they are grown, making MEMORIES, TOGETHER! It's about giving my husband a choice to do what he WANTS to do and not what he HAS to do.

Do you see? If spending 10 years (often times less) on a direct sales business can get you THAT, why not just give it a try? I'm over 3 years in now. There is still a lot of work to be done, but I am STILL excited about the direction Scentsy is going, our products, inspiring others & changing my own legacy. I have watched my business grow every single year I have been doing this and it's EXCITING! I have worked HARD for where I am today. Often times I even feel I could work harder! But it's my decision to run my business my way & it's only going to slow down when I get there. But, I WILL get there.

But life happens, right? What if your child is sick & you have to call in to work. What if you have multiple children, like me & each one gets sick, one after another. Could you imagine calling in to work for a week or more straight? What would happen to your job? Would it still be there when you get back? What if you were in an accident or had a devastating illness & couldn't work a traditional job because of your situation? What would you do?

What if you had a job that worked around your schedule, was there for you when you needed it, had people to help lift you up when you are down.  What if you took a necessary 2 weeks off work & you didn't even blink an eye. What if you continued to earn an income while you were not working? What if YOU had control?

What if you were empowered, encouraged, celebrated, inspired, congratulated, energized, stimulated, praised, motivated? What if you were proud of yourself for doing something you didn't think you could do? What if it just meant showing some one a warmer and some wax? Would it all be worth it?

What are you afraid of? Is it failure? Only YOU can define failure. To purchase a kit for $99 and have a hugely successful company backing you, making the product and all the marketing material for you, encouraging you to succeed, training you, rewarding you and all it takes to make that investment back is an average of $550 in sales?

I can lead you to water, but I can't make you drink. I am here to help, teach and inspire you. But you have to do the work. You have to apply what you learn. You have to jump in & do it, even when it's hard. But here is a secret, It's totally worth it!

Wax Samples

One of the best tips I can give you to help you build your business is to make wax samples and attach them to your business card. I always carry my business cards with me where ever I go. I give them to cashiers as I check out at Target, Wal-Mart, grocery store, the gas station, drive thrus, etc. I also leave them with tips for our waitresses at restaurants, in public bathrooms on the counter next to the sink, on every cork board I can find & pretty much anywhere else I can think of! I also place them in bags with my customer's orders, in hostess packets, recruiting packets, give them out at parties, mail them to my customers/hostesses (Click here for another inexpensive way to make samples to be sent in the mail or if you live in a warmer climate), etc.  I plant seeds EVERYWHERE! You never know who will see them, who you will run into and the conversations you will have. When venturing out in to the world, there is opportunity everywhere! Never leave your house brand naked!

Below is the step by step process of how I make my wax samples. First, you will need the following supplies:

  • Bars of wax to be melted
  • Soap or candy molds found at your local craft shop
  • Glass Pyrex measuring cup
  • Little jewelry zip lock baggies
  • Labels to identify the scent
  • Your business cards
  • Stapler
  • Scissors to cut your labels if you are using plain paper
  • Oven mitt
  • Paper towels
  • Newspaper or something to protect your working space

Break up a bar of wax and place it in the measuring cup. Microwave for NO MORE than 2 minutes. (Over heating a glass Pyrex measuring cup will cause it to burst. You must be cautious of how hot the glass is getting)

Here is what the wax will look like after 2 minutes on high. DO NOT MICROWAVE ANY LONGER! Let the heat from the glass do it's job.

Here is another 2 minutes sitting in the microwave, with no heat. The heat from the glass melted the wax even more.

At this point, you may help it along but only heat in 30 second intervals. Remember to let the glass do it's job too and be patient! AGAIN, DO NOT OVER HEAT!

Once the wax is fully melted, pour into your molds. (The glass will be hot! I strongly urge you to use an oven mitt for this step!)

Shown below is one bar of wax, you can see how many samples you can get if you use small molds vs. larger molds. (I got a little excited towards the end there and over filled. OOPS!)

Once the wax sets, place it in your freezer for 10 minutes.

The wax will then just fall out of your mold!

Simply place them in little jewelry baggies with the label on the back side (mine are on printer paper and slid inside the baggie too, but you can use actual labels and adhere them to the back of the baggie.) Then staple them to your business card!

Ta-Da! Super simple way to share you Scentsy Business with others!

NOTE: If you are a part of more than one Scentsy Family Brand and are doing an expo or event, you must use a brand specific business card. You absolutely cannot cross market your businesses. The cards shown above are ok for everything else. (I personally have 4 different business cards, one for Scentsy, Velata, Grace Adele & all three together.)

I'd love to hear your comments: Where do you leave your business cards/samples?
